A walk along the marina will take you past Corfu
Palace, one of the island's five star hotels.Its outdoor bar is set amongst beautiful
mediterranean gardens and non-residents can enjoy cool cocktails and home-made ice cream.
Glance upwards and you'll see the twin peaks of the island's fortresses, and as you turn the
corner and enter the area of Garitsa you'll come across the Archeological museum. Its prize
exhibit is the Gorgon pediment which dates to 5th century BC.
If you continue walking by the sea you will eventually came to Mon Repos, the birthplace of the
Duke of Edinburgh. Here are the ruins of ancient Greek temples and a Roman forum.
The Achilleon Palace in Gastouri is a typical stopping place on the tourist trail, and well worth
a visit. It was built between 1890 and 1892 by the Empress Elizabeth of Austria. It is furnished
with impressive statues and paintings. The views form this spot are spectular.
